One of Yorkshire's great markets, in the town that clothed the world: fabric by the yard, haberdashery by the drawer, and traders who know your name by the second visit.
Dewsbury's wealth was woven — the heavy woollen district ran through these streets, and the market has sold cloth since the town had a charter. Dressmakers still travel here from across the county for it.
The stalls run from suiting wool and sari silks to curtain nets and craft cottons, with buttons, zips and trims sold by people who can tell you exactly how much you need.
